The Watsons Go To Birmingham-1963 Central Idea

In The Watsons Go To Birmingham-1963 by John Paul Curtis, The central Idea is how this family is affected by an Alabama bombing. For the first 11 or so chapters, Curtis shows the family and what they do on a daily basis, and eventually gets to when they begin their journey to Alabama to visit Grandma Sands. Their mom, Wilona, used to live in Birmingham and she wanted to take her kids to meet their grandma. The Watsons live in Flint Michigan where it is cold and their is not much racial segregation that is described while they reside there. When they go to Alabama, Joetta goes to Sunday School and the church she goes to is bombed by a couple of white men. After this incident the last couple chapters explain how the family was affected by this, especially their parents. Although nobody got hurt, they still are constantly worried about this or something bad could happen to them.
